Anita Lomas

Location: Ilam nr Ashbourne   /  Genre: Natural Fibre Basketry

Artist Statement

Anita is a natural fibre weaver and basketmaker. She weaves with the leaves of many plants she grows in her garden. The beauty of iris sibirica, daylily, daffodils and the humble dandelion can be transformed into new forms that bring nature and the fresh scent of outdoors into the home. Anita also uses willow bark which is sustainably sourced from coppiced willow beds, to give strength to her pieces.

As a qualified basketmaker, Anita uses ancient methods and traditional basketry techniques to create her work. She draws inspiration from around the globe, picking out elements of colour, shapes and styles to incorporate into her unique handwoven pieces.

Anita recently gained entry into an online Form to Freedom exhibition, joining other natural fibre weavers from around the whole.

Anita is a member of the Basketmakers’ Association and the Peak District Artisans. She works from her garden studio in Gatley, Cheshire, where she harvests from the garden, dries, stores and weave the leaves she has grown. Her work is available to purchase from her website at www.muchnita.co.uk
