Artist Statement
My linocut prints explore the beauty and transience of nature and our connection to it, particularly focusing on florals. Inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement, I emphasise the importance of mindful craftsmanship and slowing down to appreciate the present moment. The process of carving itself is a meditative act, and this intentionality translates into the final artwork. I use a fluid carving style, carved marks add a sense of energy and life to the prints. This approach, combined with influences from Art Nouveau and Art Deco, creates a unique aesthetic that captures the essence of natural forms while emphasising their three-dimensionality.
Colour plays a vital role in my work. I often use coloured paper such as mulberry. I like to layer complementary colours to create vibrant and dynamic compositions. These carefully chosen colours, along with the opaque inks contribute to the overall energy and vibrancy of each piece.
