Location: Holymoorside   /  Genre: Textile & Mixed Media

Artist Statement

Helen started creating at an early age then studied applied textiles and became a qualified trainer.
Her practice includes upcycling and using innovative textile art materials and techniques. Helen embraces many techniques including hand and free machine embroidery, wet and dry needle felting, art journalling, surface fabric/paper design and embellishment.

A piece may start by colouring the base fabric (paint, plant dyes, ice dying …) and then continue by incorporating a range of fibres, found objects, and stitch. Some work utilisies materials that will be distressed by heat e.g. Tyvek or Lutradur. Helen’s work is often inspired by nature, and her work evolves with a sense of playful exploration of “what if…?”

Work may be framed as 2D wall art or mounted on blank greeting card. Helen’s portfolio includes wearable art, home décor and stationary.
Helen’s free machine embroidery can be found in wall art, cards and lanterns. Felting can be used to create landscapes, bowls, scarves and brooches. You will find patchwork on journal covers, potholders, cushions and greeting cards.

Helen can be commissioned to create public or private installations, personalise gifts, create memory quilts, mend or alter clothes, or to provide bespoke creative experiences.

Helen runs regular Creative Workshops both at her creative lounge in Inkersall, Chesterfield, and elsewhere for corporate & community groups and events.

Helen gives inspirational talks, produces on-demand digital guidance, blogs, undertakes commissions and creates kits for you to get creative at home.

Helen brings some peace and play to your everyday!
