Artist Statement
I am predominantly (but not always) a Watercolour artist. I am inspired by the natural world and elements, their interaction and reaction to each other.I prefer to work within the environment of the subject I am painting both outdoors or inside
buildings in order to capture the light and shade, the tones and textures, the atmosphere.
As a botanical artist I paint in watercolour to capture the small detail and delicacy, the growth and sometimes blemishes of nature.
Urban sketches, buildings and illustrations also usually require the finer detail I enjoy with watercolours.
My Oil Paints always come with me for Seascapes, Landscapes and larger paintings.
Mixed Media and 3D artwork is also something I enjoy and is often commissioned for interiors in Restaurants/Hotels.
After my thesis and training through Nottingham University/Matlock Training College I became a qualified teacher and enjoyed specialising in Art .
I taught for Derbyshire Education Authority and St. Anselm's School, Bakewell which I enjoyed until a change in career following time overseas with The British Council teaching English.
I worked with Designers, Architects and Contract Furniture and Lighting manufacturing
companies on various projects from International Airports to Crown Courts and Schools.
My varied roles involved Interior Design and Concept Design for Hotels, Restaurants,
Gastro Pubs , Private Clubs and Leisure facilities.
Enjoying all aspects of art and now retired I have been busy sketching, painting and
creating in my studio and out and about, both here and overseas.
