Maria Boyd

Location: Long Eaton   /  Genre: Stylised Watercolour Paintings

Artist Statement

Maria Boyd is a Contemporary Watercolour Artist living and working in Leicester. She has a degree in textile design from the Herriot Watt University in Galashiels, and produces highly stylised contemporary watercolours. She loves the versatility of watercolours which can be used to evoke a whole host of atmospheres from light and airy to dark and brooding scenes. Her watercolours have a depth that evokes the resemblance of the textiles that she trained in.

Her inspiration comes from the landscapes of her native Scotland to the ancient Meadows of England and all the gardens, parks and pavements in-between. She also has a love of pattern, and loves the mystical elements of Celtic and Islamic art she has picked up from her travels, and elements of them frequently appear in her art.

Her style involves juxta-posing stylised images of nature and wildlife onto highly patterned grounds, with a smattering of golden highlights.

Her paintings have been exhibited exhibitions and galleries in the Midlands, West Midlands, Warwickshire, Yorkshire, Suffolk, Norfolk and the Cotswolds. She is an elected member of the Leicester Society of Artists
