Caroline Lowe

Location: Wirksworth   /  Genre: Painting & Mixed Media

Artist Statement

Caroline is a contemporary abstract painter and mixed media artist living in South Derbyshire. Her current body of expressive abstract paintings are inspired by light, land and the pure application of paint. She is intrigued by how we perceive, and our emotional response to visual sensations and the illusions that paint can create. She is excited by process, using not only brushes but many varied tools and mark making implements, powerful colours, texture and collage, creating many layers that result in atmospheric surfaces. Caroline attempts to create art that is cathartic, to escape an ever increasing frenetic world.

Caroline received a first class Degree in Fine Art from the University of Derby. She also received the Vice Chancellors Award and her work is in the University collection. Following her success she was awarded the Gertrude Aston Bowater Scholarship Award towards her Masters in Fine Art at the University of Birmingham, which she completed in 2017. Caroline has exhibited in the UK and internationally.
