Artist Statement
I have been making pottery for the home and garden for over 40 years. Most of my domestic ware is thrown on an electric wheel modified by hand including extruded handles. I currently work with white earthenware clay which is biscuit fired, then glazed and decorated with coloured glazes and fired in an electric kiln to 1100 deg C. All of the domestic ware is oven proof. The cloches for making sourdough or crusty french bread are used in a domestic oven at 240 degC.Garden pots and troughs are either slab built or thrown using crank or grogged clay. They are then biscuit fired then after the application of stoneware glazed fired to 1220 degC making them frost proof
I also make hand built small decorative bowls using white and coloured porcelain. The coloured porcelain is made by adding oxides to white porcelain.
My raku pots are wheel thrown white earthenware clay with added grog, then biscuit fired to 1060deg C and then either glazed and fired in a dustbin kiln and plunged sawdust or left unglazed and decorated with hair and organic materials.
