Location: Wirksworth   /  Genre: Jewellery

Artist Statement

Born and raised in Yorkshire to a family silversmith of metalworkers, Lisa Pilley graduated in pattern and print design, going on to have a 30 year career as a designer and lead colour consultant. Drawing on these skills and her talent as an artist, Lisa now designs and creates jewellery in her garden studio in rural Derbyshire.

Lisa hand-carves and sculpts her jewellery with recycled silver and adds gold elements and hand painted oxidisation, imbuing each piece with a magical story inspired by country walks and books read to her three children. Her work is very grounded by weight and form, using organic forms taken from nature, each design a homage to the hedgerows, woodlands and natural beauty of the British countryside. A short story of Lisa's whimsical design ideas accompanies each of her sculptured jewellery ranges.

Lisa says, “To be inspired is to be honest with yourself and love what makes us happy. These
ideas come through our senses, whether visual, smell, taste, touch or rhythm. I drum up a
story in my mind which sets me on a path of creativity and, in turn, will bring joy to the person wearing my work, creating their own nostalgia.”
