Artist Statement

I studied fine art at Wimbledon and Birmingham in the 1970’s. Since retiring from full time teaching 8 years ago I have had the opportunity to spend more time on my art. This has enabled me to focus on my interests in terms of subject matter. A focal point of my work has been the seasonal change and effect of light on trees and foliage, working both from using my own photographic sources and directly from nature. I use oil paint or soft pastels and try to use the application of paint to convey light and colour. I have recently begun to work in series, producing several images on a theme and to explore scale and media.
