Artist Statement

My work focuses on the beauty of the natural world which I use as a starting point for both my illustrative watercolour and ink studies, and also my more expressive landscape and seascape oil paintings. My delicately rendered illustrations centre on a variety of natural and life forms which allows me to examine the subtle shifts of colour within each chosen subject, and I sometimes focus on subjects exploring the human condition as in my recent work 'Don't Worry Be Happy'. In contrast to this, my oil paintings are often inspired by dramatic atmospheric conditions which suits my colourist approach to painting. The incredible conditions of light on the island of Jersey, my place of origin, finds its way into all of my work in one way or another. My illustrative series of paintings can be seen at Gallery In The Gardens, Buxton, where I am a member of High Peak Artists. I undertake commissions on request and run regular workshops and art events for groups of all ages.
