Artist Statement

I take inspiration for my illustrations primarily from children’s books and animals. An idea could develop from their relatable personalities and expressions, creating fun and positive designs, such as cats doing Yoga or a dog owner going on adventures with their furry friend! My illustrations are both cute and contemporary, but also display humour, sentiment and nostalgia.

The vision for my illustrations is to create a personal connection to the customer. This could be in the form of envisioning your own pet, relative or friend within one of my designs. It’s fantastic to see customers purchasing artwork, because of the association that they can instantly visualise for their recipient. I also enjoy working on custom designs, whether this is by personalisation of a current design or a completely new design, such as a family portrait. I love to create a product that can feel like a creative alternative to a memorable photograph that the owner can treasure. The environment also plays a large part in the development of my products, therefore everything is printed onto recycled and sustainable materials and uses plastic free and reused packaging.

I sell my work at many arts events, as well as online and through various independent gift shops throughout the UK. I have also had the fantastic opportunity to illustrate children’s books and am currently collaborating with a newly established publisher to create my seventh book.

I design products digitally using Photoshop and Procreate. This allows me to create many unique and personalised commissions, developed from original designs. When studying Illustration at University, I used traditional methods such as watercolour and gouache and try to retain a hint of this style within my work. This may involve using many traditional style brushes within digital media.
