Artist Statement

It all started with just one dot, one tiny little dot followed by hundreds of thousands more and a LOT of patience.
My name is Rachel – welcome to my world of dot mandala.

In March 2020 as the world plunged into a pandemic I knew I had to find something to fill my time whilst keeping my creative mind busy and focussed.
I began painting patterns on stones, sharing images of them on my Facebook page. People began to enquire about purchasing them and I was asked if I would commission a canvas – the rest as they say is history.

So what are mandalas?
Mandala is a Sanskrit word which literally means “circle”.
The ancient art form where a geometric design is created often circular in shape which features a central point surrounded by patterns and symbols. Used to help find, balance, peace and harmony.

Dot mandala is a form of mandala where intricate patterns created using dots of different sizes radiating from a central point.

I paint with acrylic on circular canvas boards using dotting tools to create my pieces. I work with only two colours and delicately layer them to provide depth. Each original design can take up to 180 hours to create and I am delighted to have sold them both in the UK and overseas.

Come watch me work in my studio @No9 and immerse yourself in the wonder of mandala.
