Artist Statement

Sarah Joseph-Dasent is an established Trinidadian artist who obtained her BFA in Painting and Set Design from Howard University, Washington D.C. USA in 1991, and since then has been exhibiting consistently for over 25 years in her home country as well as further afield.

Now making Sheffield her home, she finds that her new environment has influenced her current work significantly. She's been warmly welcomed by the Walkley Edge Artists & the well-known Peak District Artisans with whom she's exhibited widely over recent years.

Sarah is known for her vibrant layers of organic transparencies; each painting a distinctive
interpretation of the world around her. Utilizing acrylic on canvas as her medium, her use of colour boldly reveals her Caribbean heritage.

Her work consistently features the human figure, exploring a wide range of themes—from deeply introspective reflections to inspiring semi-abstract landscapes. At times, her art delves into timely social and environmental issues, always with the intention of evoking a meaningful response from the viewer.
