Artist Statement
Greta paints light-filled landscape, floral and animal paintings that tug at the heart strings, both from her studio in Sheffield and en plein air in the Peak District and Yorkshire countryside.Always feeling most at home in the outdoors, with her work, Greta conveys the tender feelings of cosy nostalgia, wonder and appreciation for the countryside, and the animals that roam there. She works primarily in oils with a loose, impressionistic alla prima (“all in one go”) style and aims to delight the viewer with a wide range of brushstrokes and techniques, whilst maintaining a sense of realism.
Lithuanian-born Greta began painting prolifically after experiencing burn out as a researcher in Neuroscience, and gained early recognition with her "100 paintings in 100 days" project, winning the Search Press award for her painting "Mother and Calf". She became a full-time artist in 2022 after receiving an Arts Council grant to paint farm animals and farmland in the north of England. Since then, Greta has been regularly exhibiting her paintings in local and national art exhibitions. In 2023 her plein air painting "Early Spring at Padley Gorge" won two awards at The Artist exhibition at Patchings Art Centre. She is also a regular contributor to “The Artist” magazine and runs demonstrations and workshops in the North and Midlands.
