Artist Statement
Having had a working life as a structural engineering technician I escaped the constraints of technical drawing and in later life became a semi abstract landscape painter. I create colourful, joyous personal artwork. I am inspired by nature and its raw beauty. I love experiencing the feeling of simply being alive in all elements whether sunny or stormy .I believe art can recreate these experiences and can remind us of exactly how we felt at the time. It should stir our soul.
I work intuitively with little or no plan from my own photos. I use many layers of mixed media- acrylic paint, oil pastels, crayons, pencils and my own hand made collage or collage that I’ve collected that is pertinent to my subject or is personal to me . This method means my paintings 'talk' to me and lead me down unexpected paths .
Only when I love each part of the painting do I know it’s finished.
I am constantly inspired by the Peak District , Yorkshire and Cornwall .
