Artist Statement

Having had a working life as a structural engineering technician I escaped the constraints of technical drawing and in later life became a semi abstract landscape painter. I create colourful, joyous personal artwork. I am inspired by nature and its raw beauty. I love experiencing the feeling of simply being alive in all elements whether sunny or stormy .
I believe art can recreate these experiences and can remind us of exactly how we felt at the time. It should stir our soul.
I work intuitively with little or no plan from my own photos. I use many layers of mixed media- acrylic paint, oil pastels, crayons, pencils and my own hand made collage or collage that I’ve collected that is pertinent to my subject or is personal to me . This method means my paintings 'talk' to me and lead me down unexpected paths .
Only when I love each part of the painting do I know it’s finished.
I am constantly inspired by the Peak District , Yorkshire and Cornwall .
