Louise Edwards

Location: Ilam nr Ashbourne   /  Genre: Printmaking

Artist Statement

Louise views her work as a visual reminder of her experiences in and around her home of Cauldon, North Staffordshire. Each complex, colourful and joy-filled reduction linocut has a story behind it and uses the local area around her home, the wildlife and bird life within it and the magical changes that the seasons bring to tell it.

Having been an avid childhood reader, Louise was captivated by the illustrations and was delighted when her friend's Mother introduced her to the joy of linocut printmaking.

Louise works from the end room in her cottage with her beautiful Gunning press and copious cups of tea to fuel her need to challenge herself with the technicalities of the relief printing process.

Each image is a limited edition by the nature of reduction printing as the same block is used for all of the colour layers, gradually being carved away to reveal the final lino print.
