Artist Statement

Upon moving from London to Belper, five years ago, I felt very fortunate to find myself living with the tranquil Derbyshire countryside at my doorstep. During lockdown, with not much else to do but wander and explore, I found my surroundings a great source of creative inspiration. My practice is centred on the interconnections between humans and the natural world. Do trees not value the warmth of the sun on their bark as we value its glow on our skin? I am interested in how humans have separated themselves from nature and see themselves as observers rather than partakers. I wish to reanimate the wild world we encounter with the colours of subjective human experience. I continue to develop and build my visual language through oil paint pastel and pen.
At Derbyshire Open Arts I will be showing oil paintings, chalk pastels drawings and pen and pencil drawings. Prints and cards of my art work will also be available.
