Artist Statement

I am a designer and creator of decorative fused glass artwork, homeware and jewellery and have been creating in my studio in Derbyshire since 2017 where I also run workshops. I hope to introduce the joy of working with glass, which is such a versatile medium, encouraging students to step outside of their comfort zone to create something that brings them joy and that they can be proud of.

Glass fusing is the technique used to join glass pieces together by partly melting the glass at high temperature in a kiln. The fired piece can then be made into for example - candle shades, coasters, framed as a picture or larger pieces can be returned to the kiln to be slumped on or draped over a mould to create bowls and vases. My current area of interest is sculptural work which may require using a variety of fused glass techniques and multiple firings to create 3D work that will inspire.

Taking inspiration from the natural world I produce simple and beautiful designs; flowers, trees and oceans are all captured in my work. I believe in beautiful design and careful execution while allowing the natural variations that are a result of the firing/melting process to enhance the finished piece. The possibilities are endless and every finished piece is one of a kind.

I take on commissions enjoying the collaboration of making something personal and unique that will be treasured.

You can find my work at The Derbyshire Makers Shop, Peak Village Rowsley Bakewell; ‘Yellow’ Keep it local shop, The Potteries shopping centre, Stoke on Trent; Derby Uncovered, Saddlergate, Derby and also on my website.
