Sarah J Cooper

Location: Hope Valley   /  Genre: Oil Painting

Artist Statement

Sarah J Cooper was born in Sheffield and now lives in the Hope Valley with her family and where her studio/gallery is based. The enjoyment of not only living and working in such a beautiful part of the World, but also exploring the UK’s coastline and moorlands give Sarah unlimited inspiration for her art.

Sarah is a complete self-taught artist, developing her technique and working practice over the years. The artworks are created through a series of sketches (en plein air), notes and photographs, but mostly through the continual observation of her surroundings and experiences. Back in the studio Sarah will experiment; creating her vision on smaller canvasses at first before working on larger pieces. All of Sarah’s work is from memory.

Working predominantly with oils and applying the paint with palette knives, brushes and her hands, Sarah creates layers and textures, which give the paintings a sense of movement. Forever striving to keep her work evolving by pushing boundaries with experimental techniques and the use of other mixed medias.

Commissions are occasionally accepted after discussions between the client and artist to ensure the correct vision can be achieved. Sarah is more than happy to chat about any preliminary ideas for commissions during a visit to the studio.

When visiting the studio you will be able to see and look around at Sarah’s working space, current works in progress and also the tools and equipment Sarah uses to create her art. As well as large art pieces Sarah has a range of mini original paintings, to suit a smaller budget, a variety of art cards and fine art prints all of which you can see in her studio/gallery.

During a visit Sarah is happy to discuss her working techniques and answer any questions you may have regarding the artwork.
