Location: Beeley   /  Genre: Textile Art

Artist Statement

I'm a mixed media textile artist, creating textile art inspired by the colours, patterns and textures found in nature. I like to create my own background fabrics, by printing, machine felting or hand dyeing, and then using hand and machine embroidery to create layers of texture, adding beads, buttons and found objects where needed.
I'm currently in my final year of a Textiles Degree at Huddersfield University, specialising in embroidery. My final major piece for University uses lichen as a theme, developing a jewellery/accessories collection as well as continuing to explore creating small embroidered 'Lichen Gardens' mounted in vintage tins and frames.

I regularly posts images of my work on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/handmade_by_lizas/

I'm exhibiting alongside Ecostitchers, a group of 5 textile artists based in and around the Peak District, who produce a wide variety of high quality and innovative textile art exploring environmental and climate change. As Ecostitichers, the we aim to work in as environmentally conscious and sustainable way as possible. Each member working independently, inspired by a theme chosen for the year, the theme for 2025 being 'Habitat'.
