Artist Statement

Having worked as a Pharmacist for many years I had little time to follow my passion for woodworking. In 2012 my wife and I started a major restoration of a 200 year old cottage on the edge of the peak district. Over time my woodworking skills progressed to the extent that I designed and made the staircase.
Talking to work colleagues led to commissions for carved boards, some for wedding gifts and others with personal meaning for the client.
Offcuts from the staircase led to the chicken egg rack and goose door stop, the idea being further developed to produce a duck sink tidy and a sheep kitchen towel holder.
Initially facebook and word of mouth were how I built up the business, but in 2023 I invested in a website, as a result I reached a wider audience and had a greater variety of commissions ranging from repairing damaged drawer fronts to making a pair of miniature churches.
I have recently supplied a local cheese shop with a range of cheese/chopping boards, an exciting development as this is my first retail outlet.
Commissions for friends and family continue alongside my commercial endeavours including cabinets, bookcases, a bar and large domestic gates.
I take pleasure in making both large and small items using the best materials I can source. It is always rewarding to assist clients in the visualisation and design of projects to bring their ideas to fruition.
